A former 14th century church and monastery in Krakow has been transformed into a 125-key hotel. Part of Marriott‘s Autograph Collection, 12|14 Stradom House is set to open May 2023, and will also comprise three F&B venues, a wellness concept by Alexandra Soveral and a private members club.
Interiors are the work of ADC Atelier, whose founder is behind the design of projects including Soho House. The history of the building will be embraced, albeit in a new way, with frescoes and high ceilings restored alongside bold colours and textures.
Nods to Krakow’s history and culture are present throughout the property’s design, for instance in the lobby’s mineral salt-inspired walls, rugs based on 17th century tapestries and locally sourced vintage furniture. Meanwhile, colour palettes in guestrooms subtly reference the Krakow skyline through soft pinks and patinated blues.
In addition, classic details are offset with modern furniture such as leather-clad, high-gloss desks and vintage furniture reupholstered in modern fabrics. Local craftsmanship will be spotlighted throughout, with commissioned artworks by local Polish artists including Przemek Pyszczek, Marcin Janusz and Dorota Buczkowska. For a step up from guestrooms, the 155m² Chapel Loft – currently the largest suite in the city – comprises a master bedroom, grand piano and private kitchen with dining table.
For those looking for a more public dining space, 12|14 Stradom House will comprise three restaurants and bars. Seafood restaurant John Dory features underwater-inspired interiors and salt pink marble – a reference to the local salt mines – and offers Chef’s Table or private dining experiences. Meanwhile, at Gaia, Mediterranean-inspired dishes are served in a setting embellished by an adjoining courtyard. Finally, Hedwig’s Club sees a bar and wine cellar find home inside the church of St Hedwig, a space designed to combine baroque details with a modernist colour palette reminiscent of the copper roofs of Krakow.
Guests will also benefit from the Sól spa, created in partnership with Alexandra Soveral. Cave-like treatment rooms will be the setting for treatments inspired by local salt mining traditions, while a pool, gym, hydromassage showers, infrared salt sauna and sound room are just some of the further wellness facilities on offer.
Alongside the opening of the property, 12|14 Stradom House will launch a private Membership Club, offering members exclusive access to the hotel’s F&B, wellness, events and coworking spaces.
