1 Hotels unveils Brooklyn flagship

1 Hotels has announced the May 2017 opening date of its flagship Brooklyn Bridge property, 1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge. Featuring a rooftop swimming pool and bar, meeting spaces, full-service gym, spa and four dining venues, the 194-key property offers views of the Statue of Liberty and the Manhattan skyline.

Located at Pier 1 on Brooklyn Bridge Park, south of the iconic bridge and the Brooklyn Heights neighbourhood, the 10-story sustainable ground-up development has been designed by New York-based architecture studio Incorporated. All aspects of the hotel’s design and construction have been be chosen to reflect 1 Hotel’s commitment to environmentally responsible hospitality, and the hotel was built in a joint venture between Starwood Capital Group and Toll Brothers City Living.

“The 1 Hotels brand aims to show sophisticated travellers they can live well, do good, and respect the community around them while helping each other create a greener world,” comments 1 Hotels founder and SH Group CEO Barry Sternlicht. “As our first brand new development, 1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge is the true realisation of our vision for 1 Hotels and quite possibly the best hotel I have ever done. The Brooklyn community is known for their vitality and innovation in health, wellness and eco-friendly practices. We are incredibly excited to be a part of this thriving community.”

The hotel has enlisted restaurateur Seamus Mullen to conceptualise its signature restaurant, which features an open kitchen design and wood-burning grill. Elsewhere, the rooftop space incorporates a selection of native plants, and is designed to accommodate both day and night event programming.

1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge further includes over 20,000ft² of flexible meeting and event space, featuring sliding floor to ceiling windows and tree-line views of Brooklyn Bridge Park. The Meadow Rue Ballroom, located on the ground floor, features a full façade of collapsable doors and windows that open onto the park, creating a space to accommodate up to 1,000 guests. Also located on the ground level, Neighbors Café offers seasonal, fresh items from Brooklyn purveyors among other signature curated dishes.

1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge seeks to bring to life the brand’s philosophy of honouring and protecting nature, and, according to Kemper Hyers, SVP of Design at Starwood Capital Group, the signature 1 Hotels design is given an “industrial edge” in Brooklyn, drawing from its natural surroundings and locale for inspiration. The lobby, for example, features a large living green wall, and art sculptures incorporating native greenery and reclaimed materials.

The design makes extensive use of regional and reclaimed materials, including original heart pine beams from the former Domino Sugar Factory, walnut from the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens and pine flooring from the Old Crow Distillery in Kentucky. Elsewhere, guestrooms incorporate native trees and filtered water taps, whilst public spaces feature nature themed artwork throughout, similar to the brand’s 1 Hotel South Beach and 1 Hotel Central Park properties.

1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge has further announced its committed to sustainability and protecting the environment, operating its own rain-water reclamation system and installing low-energy light bulbs, a triple-filtered water purification system, and in-room recycling bins.

In addition to the opening of 1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge, 1 Hotels is also working on the development of three new sustainable properties, including its first international location, which will be announced in the upcoming weeks.
