Style Library Contract guides Barnett Hill remodel
Style Library Contract has provided design direction services for the remodelling of Barnett Hill Hotel in Guilford, Surrey, a member of The Alexander Hotels Group.
Barnett Hill, a Queen Anne-style Mansion dating back to 1905, sits on a hilltop location and offers views of 26 acres of maintained gardens and woodland. Peter and Deborah Hinchcliffe, joint Managing Directors of the property, bought Barnett Hill in October 2016, attracted by the grade-II listed building.
“When we purchased the hotel, it was looking quite sad and uncared for,” Says Deborah Hinchcliffe. “I think all the public rooms were painted yellow, despite having stunning mouldings and plaster features as well as an impressive stair case, it just looked neglected and institutional.”
Here Style Library Contract was briefed to create a paint scheme that sat well within the grade II listing style, was durable, and would bring the public areas back to life with a smart 21st century look. Whilst elsewhere, the brand selected furnishings and fixtures that further enhance the experience, settling on the Callista Collection by Clarissa Hulse for Harlequin to complement the remodelled guestrooms.
“It seemed the perfect range for a lot of the bedrooms,” Hinchcliffe adds. “The cow parsley and grass designs using vibrant energising colours were just the perfect collection, it sat well with the garden theme and magnificent range of colours you find in our herbaceous and hot garden, ensure that all the bedrooms had a memorable look. I also loved the Cestino design with the multitude of colour and fun, yet very smart looking, this was used on arm chairs.”
