Preciosa halts time at Great Scotland Yard
Preciosa has created an eye-catching bespoke fixture embodying the stoppage of time for Great Scotland Yard in London.
Formerly the city’s Metropolitan Police headquarters, the building boasts a rich history and narrative. Preciosa was approached by David T’Kint, Partner at HBA, the studio leading the hotel’s design, to create a unique piece drawing upon the property’s context for its entrance.
The brand went on to fashion an installation that calls to mind the idea of time shattering by way of an exploding clock. By producing and fixing the individual parts, the details avoid appearing as hanging components, and instead showcase a soft look.
The final installation weighs 450 kilogrammes and is crafted from clear and frosted plate glass. Meanwhile, the base is made from a mix of metal finishes including polished stainless steel, golden brown, and aged brown patina.
Preciosa also created wall sconces for one of the lift lobbies as well as a chandelier for the Owner’s Suite.
“We adore the clock and it’s most definitely a unique statement piece of art for future guests entering the hotel,” says Sholto Smith, General Manager of Great Scotland Yard Hotel.
