Philippe Starck designs the Rayn collection for Dedon
The collection combines the comfort and sophistication of the world’s finest indoor systems with all the outdoor knowhow and barefoot luxury expected of Dedon.
“The centrepiece of the garden,” says Starck, “Rayn was design to bring pleasure to not just those lounging on it but to those around it.” This is as evident in the collection’s innovative new textile weave as in the asymmetrical beauty of its forms, accentuated by armrests so generously proportioned they double as side tables.
Criss-crossing horizontal ribbons of pale ecru fabric with vertical tubes of warm grey fabric, Dedon’s master weavers have covered Rayn’s powder-coated frame in an elegant new woven pattern that, looser and more open than usual for Dedon, brings out all of the rich, tonal variation in the fabric itself.
The result is an unprecedented combination of textures and materials – smooth powder-coating, a luxurious fabric weave and, for the cushion covers, a variety of the richest outdoor fabric.
With its subtle Calico colour scheme, the textile version of Rayn is best suited for use on a covered terrace.
For those who want to arrange their Rayn around the pool, or anywhere else under the open skies, Dedon has also created an all-fibre version that’s available in two colourways. These are the sepia-toned Veneto and light-grey melange of Salina.
A modular system comprising a wide array of typologies, from daybed to beach chair to footstools to coffee tables with tops of elegant, impact-resistant porcelain, Rayn can be configured to suit any setting.
