Bespoke lighting designer and manufacturer Dernier & Hamlyn has been purchased by NVC Lighting.
Founded in 1888 by Louis Dernier, the company originally made hand-decorated lampshades using fine silks from France and China. In recent years, it has worked closely with designers to create bespoke lighting installations at a number of the UK’s top hotels including The Langley, The Standard and Kimpton Fitzroy in London, as well as Adare Manor in County Limerick and The Balmoral in Edinburgh.
NVC has been operating in the UK since 2007 and provides a wide range of lighting products complementary to Dernier & Hamlyn’s fittings. The company is in the early stages of planning a way forward for the venture, which looks set to make it the most diverse lighting supplier in the UK, with the ability to meet the needs of varied clients from one-off high-end installations to volume contract lighting.
“We feel a tremendous responsibility taking on Dernier & Hamlyn, which is such a well respected brand in the lighting industry with a tremendous heritage,” comments Joe Clark, NVC’s CEO. “However, we believe we are the right people to progress it to the next level and to ensure it flourishes now and into the future.”
