In celebration of its 50th anniversary, Designers Guild has announced it will host an exhibition at the Fashion and Textile Museum in London, as well as a new accompanying book.

Staring out as a small section of a single shop in Chelsea’s Kings Road in 1970, Designers Guild as grown into a global enterprise, influencing the way in which people view colour, pattern and texture.

The company was founded by Tricia Guild OBE, whose distinctive and creative approach to interiors pushed boundaries, defined tastes and set styles.

Today, it is headed and owned by Guild, Founder and Creative Director, and her brother Simon Jeffreys, Group Chief Executive.

Their unique approach is revealed in the upcoming exhibition, Out of the Blue: 50 Years of Designers Guild.

The presentation has been curated by Dennis Nothdruft, Head of Exhibitions at the Fashion and Textile Museum, and Textile Historian Mary Schoeser, in collaboration with Designers Guild.

Visitors will first-hand see where Guild sources her inspiration – from her travels to India, Japan, Scandinavia and beyond, to name a few – and how that vision is translated into the brand’s collections of fabrics, wallpaper, furniture and accessories.

The display will also highlight the techniques and processes vital for making these ranges happen and how Designers Guild explored various printing methods in the quest for innovation.

Attendees will also gain insight on the variety of designs and constant re-invention that is central to the company’s ethos.

Alongside the exhibition, Designers Guild has unveiled a new book, Out of the Blue: Fifty Years of Designers Guild, celebrating the company’s 50 years at the forefront of design and innovation, expanding on the content from the exhibition.

Out of the Blue: 50 Years of Designers Guild will be at The Fashion and Textile Museum until 13 September 2020. All talks, events, workshops and computer courses that were set to take place before 20 April will be rescheduled.
