Design meets function with Eikon
A pendant light designed by Niklas Jessen and Julia Mülling, released by SCHNEID, Eikon questions the way we integrate and live with everyday products as rigid, inflexible objects in a fast-moving, dynamic world.
Eikon is made of certified ash, oak, or bamboo and a lampshade that is attached with the help of magnets; the wooden socket constitutes the minimalist base of the lamp. The lampshade, made of metal or silicone and available in two different sizes, forms a contrast with its vibrant colours, or, as in the case of the Ray edition, with its reflective surface. Due to the magnetic system, the lampshade can be changed with only a small grip, and another colour, shape or material to be attached to the wooden fixture.
Eikon Bubble is a silicone lampshade that is poured into an unusual shape. With its translucent visual appearance, it brings new aesthetic features to the lamp, while touching the soft and flexible shade will reveal the optical illusion that is initially created by the glass-like material. The Eikon Marble Edition is the newest extension of this project, with each lampshade cast by hand and possessing its own unique marble structure.
The lamp emerged from the idea to create a synthesis of the industrial age, thus demanding a functional design, and a Scandinavian product tradition that uses wood to create a natural and comfortable atmosphere. The Eikon lamp manages this balancing act with material combinations of wood, metal, and silicone.
