Dernier & Hamlyn lights up The Arts Club in Mayfair
British manufacturer Dernier & Hamlyn has collaborated with The Arts Club in Mayfair, supplying lighting solutions to the 16 guestrooms and suites in the boutique hotel that sits above the private members’ club.
The Chessington-based company was asked to produce lighting for the bathrooms, which needed to complement the Art Deco styling while achieving technical requirements and satisfying budgetary constraints. Working closely with the hotel’s design team and interior fit-out specialists Beck, Dernier & Hamlyn produced cornice lighting with a hand-cast bronze frame that looks delicate yet is sufficiently robust to provide the required strength to uphold the concave opal shade diffusers. The resulting illumination is both effective and restrained.
“The hotel’s design narrative was to provide a haven for guests to relax in high-quality, glamorous and discreet suites in central London,” says Michael Mulhall, Director at Dernier & Hamlyn. “The lighting is key to realising the appropriate ambience and they were delighted with this unique solution produced by our team.”
The Arts Club was founded in 1863 to provide a sanctuary for those with a professional or amateur relationship with the Arts, Literature or Sciences. It has continued to welcome a community of discerning thinkers and thought leaders ever since.
