Welborn expands Gettys Group role
The Gettys Group has advanced the role of company leader Dan Welborn to Principal, Strategy & Design, which unites his architecture and design background with his business experience.
A 14-year veteran of The Gettys Group, Welborn has a unique understanding of the organisation’s capabilities. His new role combines business development elements with involvement in the initial phases of new projects, in which he collaborates with partners to identify their objectives.
“Dan’s magic lies is his ability to walk into a new business meeting, take out his sketch pad and pen and envision projects for the client,” comments Andrew Fay, The Gettys Group President. “His extensive knowledge of hospitality projects coupled with his strategic vision allows us to begin the collaborative project process in a smart and efficient way.”
Beginning his Gettys career in Chicago with work on projects including the Sanibel Harbour Marriott Resort & Spa rebuild and the Hyatt Regency Jacksonville and Ritz Carlton Chicago, Welborn then opened the group’s Southern California office and helped build the company’s presence throughout Asia. Notable projects here include the Visun Villas on China’s Hainan Island, Resorts World Manila and the Princess Hejing Mansion Boutique Hotel in Beijing.
Welborn then returned to Chicago to lead the practice in 2013, where he oversaw the growth of the Design Group and implemented a proprietary project design and delivery process rooted in research, collaboration and creativity.
In his new expanded role, Welborn will work closely with The Gettys Group’s new global design leader, Chris McDonough, who was recently promoted to Principal, Interior Design.
“Dan’s background informs and inspires all of our client relationships,” adds Jeff Bullied, Principal, Business Development. “His ability to support these dual roles will bring our strategy and business development efforts to a new level.”
Welborn will be participating in a panel discussion on the evolution of resorts at the NYU International Hospitality Industry Investment Conference, from 4-6 June.
“I enjoy spending time with our clients to build trust and a partnership,” explains Welborn. “At The Gettys Group, we believe this is essential in executing hospitality projects that meet the expectations of today’s discerning traveller.”
