Hospitality pioneer Ian Schrager shared a message of support today as the hotel market registers significant impact from the spread of Coronavirus. Posted to the Edition Hotels Instagram account, the former Studio 54 and current Edition boss reassured viewers that “we have been through a lot together, and it will pass.”
“Things will return to normal,” he continues. “People are more important than businesses, and we will get the business back. We will be going back and doing everything that we love to do – which is to create the best hotels in the world.”
“Try and take advantage of the time you have – during this very difficult and unprecedented time – to take care of yourself and your family.”
Following the global outbreak of COVID-19, the hotel industry could lose up to $1.4 billion in revenue every week according to statements made by the American Hotel and Lodging Association and U.S Travel Association. Reports in USA Today state that Marriott International are set to furlough tens of thousands of workers, whilst the wider industry has requested $150 billion in aid from the Trump administration reports The LA Times.
