“Together we can and will overcome this” – Arne Sorenson addresses Coronavirus disruption
In a recent video posted on Marriott International’s social media channels, Arne Sorenson, CEO of Marriott International, addressed his associates and provided details on the chain’s steps to surviving the coronavirus crisis.
“In terms of our business, Covid-19 is like nothing we’ve ever seen before,” comments Sorenson, describing the pandemic as having a more severe impact on the chain than both 9/11 and the 2009 financial crisis combined.
He goes on to explain that required social distancing, as well as restrictions on travel and gatherings of people are having an immediate impact on depressing the need for hotels.
Despite this, he ends his video message on an optimistic note, drawing attention to the declining spread of the virus in China, and to the gradual return of lodging demands within the country.
“I’ve never been more determined to see us through than I am at this moment,” Sorenson concludes. “It’s impossible to know how long this crisis will last. I know that we, as a global community, will come through the other side and when we do, our guests will be eager to travel this beautiful world again. When that great day comes, we will be there to welcome them.”
