The Gettys Group appoints Snr Designer

The Gettys Group has announced the appointment of Marcela Lombana as senior project designer of its renowned Miami Studio, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year.

Lombana brings more than 13 years’ experience working as a lifestyle interior designer with a wide-ranging background in high-profile hospitality and luxury residential projects mainly in the South Florida and Latin American markets.

“I believe interior design is an art that awakens and inspires human senses,” said Lombana. “The way a space is perceived will have an impact and affect the way people feel.”

Lombana’s first interior design position, with Kobi Karp Architecture & Interior Design of Miami, ignited her passion for hotels. She still counts her first hospitality design project, the Hilton Ft. Lauderdale, as one of her favorite career highlights. After working on a variety of interior projects, mostly in South Florida and the Caribbean, Lombana accepted a position with RTKL Associates, which afforded her the opportunity to design both high-end hospitality and residential projects owned by investment groups throughout South Florida, Texas and the Los Angeles area.

Her career eventually brought the Colombian native back to Bogota, where in 2009 Lombana established a consulting studio and focused on the booming Latin America hospitality market advising on large-scale projects including concept hotels, theme restaurants and large resorts.

Lombana’s appointment comes during an especially exciting time for The Gettys Group’s Miami Studio. As the office, which is led by Director Lorraine Knapp Masch, LEED AP, marks its 10th year, major hospitality projects including the Autograph Playa Largo Resort in Key Largo, the Doubletree Nashville and the Wyndham Lake Buena Vista in Orlando, have come to completion, showcasing an exceptionally innovative and productive cycle.

“We are thrilled to have Marcela join our team, especially during this eventful year,” noted Knapp Masch. “Her extensive experience, attention to detail and admirable passion for hospitality design are sure to make an immediate impact on our office and our work.”
