Scott Carver appoints Biddle
Scott Carver has announced the appointment of Angela Biddle as Principal of Interior Design. Biddle will lead the interiors team at the brand’s Sydney design studio, with her responsibilities being to guide and expand the team whilst focusing on the firm’s key growth areas in hospitality, hotel, resort and residential projects.
Rodney Paesler, Managing Director of Scott Carver, comments: “As a strategic designer, Angela has a rare depth of experience developed across an international portfolio of work… Angela arrives just in time to lead the next phase of creating the brand and interiors for two new hotels and resorts the studio is designing in Myanmar. And with domestic and international travel in Australia continuing to surge, a buoyant outlook for the hotel and hospitality sectors makes it critical we have internationally recognised designers such as Angela to meet market demand. She brings with her a unique internationally competitive perspective.”
Biddle’s 17 years experience includes complex hospitality, large-scale luxury residential, and mixed-use projects in Canada, South America, Northern Europe, South-East Asia, and extensively throughout the Middle East; including Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. She has undertaken projects for Yoo Studio, Shangri-La, Rotana Hotels, InterContinental Hotels and Marriott, amongst others.
Paesler continues: “Excitingly for the Australian market, she is one of only a handful of designers worldwide who are adept and experienced in hotel brand story creation, being a specialist in design thinking and brand synthesis to conceptualise and articulate a project’s unique character for the client and their market position.”
Biddle joins Scott Carver following a stint as a leading designer with London studio Yoo, co-founded by creative director Philippe Starck. During her five years with the studio, she played a key role in the creation of the bespoke Yoo Hotels and Resorts brand, and designed two Yoo hotels in Brazil.
“My objective is always to create unique brands and inspiring environments which celebrate a sense of place and occasion,” explains Biddle. “Working with Yoo, I was able to develop an intrinsic understanding of both developer and operator requirements, question the traditional hotel model, and then successfully innovate towards a different starting point. A key motivation was being able to help clients envisage, strategise and design places for future generations.”
