Looney & Associates promotes four designers

Interior design and architecture firm Looney & Associates has promoted four designers to support the firm’s growth, which includes a recently opened office in Honolulu and international hospitality projects.

Designers Brian Belcher, Julianne Cary, Mark Cary and Jenna Higginbotham have been promoted to associates, expanding the leadership team and bringing additional support to clients. To be named an associate, one must demonstrate an exceptional level of design expertise, commitment and experience.

“These new associates have proven themselves to be the best in design, creativity and leadership, not only within our firm but also in our industry,” comments Jim Looney, Founder of Looney & Associates. “By channelling their energy and talent through effective mentorship, we are building an even stronger firm. We are clearly looking to the future.”

Brian Belcher, AIA, NCARB, NCIDQ, was promoted due to his creativity, client service and experience in architecture and design. Since joining the firm in 2011, he has worked as a lead designer on a wide range of projects including Marriott Marquis Houston, Hyatt Regency Tyson’s Corner, Gaylord Rockies Resort & Convention Centre and Renaissance Legacy Plano.

Belcher adds: “The Renaissance Plano was an interesting project because it was the owner’s first foray into hospitality. Our challenge was to blend our client’s vision with Renaissance’s brand initiatives, which ultimately resulted in a very unique project with its own point of view that we’re all thrilled about.”

Meanwhile, Julianne Cary’s (NCIDQ) lifestyle-focused approach to hospitality projects at Looney & Associates has led to notably works including Wailea Beach Marriott Resort & Spa, The Banyan Tree at the Ritz-Carlton Kapalua and Marriott Marquis Houston, while Mark Cary, NCIDQ – who has worked as a project leader and designer at the firm since 2011 – has executed projects from Omni at the Battery Atlanta and Omni Barton Creek to St. Regis Hotel in Anguilla and La Cantera Resort & Spa.

“Being promoted to associate is rewarding because it is a formal recognition for the work, leadership and projects completed here. It also opens a forum with other Associates to help continue steering the company in the best direction moving forward,” comments Mark Cary.

Finally, Jenna Higginbotham, NCIDQ, LEED AP, has been promoted to associate following her contribution as a designer and project leader at Looney & Associates since 2011. Higginbotham has provided design direction on interior architecture and space planning, and has played important roles in marketing, event planning and company culture. Her notable projects include The Lodge at Gulf State Park, JB Duke Hotel, Omni Nashville Hotel and Hyatt Regency Tyson’s Corner.

Higginbotham explains: “I learned early in my career that Looney & Associates has an exceptional reputation for being easy to work with, diligent and respectful. One of my personal goals is to embody the spirit of hospitality in my relationships with project teams and clients – which I believe sets Looney apart.”

When asked what is the most important aspect of a successful design firm, Looney concluded: “It’s all about the people. I am very proud to announce our four new associates, and commend them on their excellent work.”
