HKS appoints Director of Hospitality

Global architectural practice, HKS, has announced the appointment of Luciano Mazza as Director of Hospitality, Architecture, based in the group’s London office, as the former director of the London team, Luis Zapiain, relocates to the USA to work in the company’s headquarters in Dallas.

Mazza, who joined HKS in 2006, has worked on a string of unique and exclusive projects in the international luxury arena, including Ananda in the Sahyadris, a wellness and spa resort in the forest of Maharashtra, India; Fairmont Taghazout Bay, Morocco; Four Seasons Plavi Horizonti, Montenegro; and, in London, the recently opened South Kensington Club.

He comments: “Architecture touches so many forms of human expression: art, history, culture, aesthetics and functionality. For me, being an architect is about going beyond the mere design of a building; it’s about using architecture to embrace an entire culture, to be engaged with society as well as with the environment. Architects have to be willing to travel, explore, listen and learn to create vibrant, inspirational and relevant design.”

Previously working on the new and seminal headquarters and factory of luxury sports car manufacturer, Bugatti, near Modena before moving to Sri Lanka, he established his own practice, commissioned by both the Italian and Vatican embassies on the island as well as by a number of regional hospitality developers. He holds a Degree in Architecture from the Venice Institute of Architecture and is a member of the Italian Register of Architects, Planners, Landscape Architects and Conservation Architects.

HKS Hospitality Group operates from 26 offices worldwide, and has designed projects in 45 countries, specialising in urban hotels, unique destination resorts and luxurious spas, boutique properties, hospitality interiors, and golf clubhouses.
