Former professional footballer-turned-hotelier Gary Neville, who co-owns Hotel Football and Stock Exchange Hotel in Manchester, has announced that both properties will accommodate healthcare workers and medical professionals free of charge from Friday 20 March to aid the ongoing battle against coronavirus.

Sharing the news via GG Hospitality’s Twitter account, the Manchester United legend told followers that “it is at this moment in time the whole of our industry needs to show solidarity, not just for our staff in these uncertain times, but for the people who need the accommodation most in the coming months”.

“Over the past week, we have been in consultation with the health services in the Greater Manchester area, in particular the Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT),” he continues. “Our 176 beds will be occupied by NHS workers and medical professionals from Friday onwards.”

Gill Heaton, Group Deputy Chief Executive at MFT, added: “A huge thank you to Gary and the team at GG Hospitality for this incredible gesture. This will give a real boost to our hard-working NHS staff at MFT who are working round the clock to provide care for the communities we serve.”

Neville also announced that none of the staff who work within GG Hospitality would be made redundant or be asked to take unpaid leave.
