Surface reveals 2017 programme

Surface Design Show, taking place from 7-9 February 2017, has revealed elements of its programme.

Returning to London’s Business Design Centre, the show will highlight the newest surfaces that the design industry has to offer. Surface Design Show is the only event in the UK that focuses solely on interior and exterior surfaces, connecting innovative and exciting materials with an audience of architects, specifiers and designers.

Since its launch in 2005 the show has become a hot spot for industry people to immerse themselves in the latest materials for the built environment, gain new insights and network with like-minded designers, architects and suppliers. The 2016 show saw 5,699 visitors attending, a significant increase from 2015.

This year’s show will be comprised of several focused areas including the Stone Gallery, where exhibitors from Europe and beyond will highlight the importance of the rapidly growing stone market in the UK, and the Light School, which will aim to educate and inspire attendees, and demonstrate the important relationship between light and surfaces.

Elsewhere, the Surface Design Awards will recognise and celebrate outstanding examples of progressive design and the use of innovative surfaces in projects both in the UK and internationally. Divided into interior and exterior categories there will be 13 awards across 7 different categories, with each project judged on a range of criteria including the type of surface, the use of materials and aesthetic design.

Meanwhile, Surface Spotlight Live, which debuted in 2016, will provide an exciting opportunity for architects and designers to see the best of advanced materials in two highlighted fields: Hospitality and Education. Trend and colour expert Sally Angharad will curate this area, and highlight materials that make a significant contribution to both fields.

The preview evening live debate will see key industry trends explored in depth, whilst the popular PechaKucha Evening will offer informal and fun presentation of slides, hosted by Phil Coffey of Coffey Architects and featuring speakers including Chris Dyson of Chris Dyson Architects and Matthew Driscoll of Threefold Architects.
