Sleepover to give a taste of the future in Copenhagen from 27-28 April 2014

A select group of hotel owners, developers, operators, architects, designers and consultants gather to experience an overnight stay in an exciting new hotel, enjoying a series of tours, talks and social events which give a unique insight into the host city, and the wider worlds of hospitality and design.

This year’s programme, taking place 27-28 April, is based around Copenhagen’s well established reputation as a global design capital, and its emergence as a world leader in gastronomy.

The host hotel is Brochner Hotel’s SP34 – Copenhagen’s newest boutique hotel, opening in April 2014 on the site of the former Hotel Fox in the heart of the city’s Latin Quarter.

SP34’s designs will celebrate the original beauty of three classic Copenhagen townhouses, combining mid-century Danish furniture design with contemporary touches to create modern, understated luxury on historic Sankt Peders Straede.

Guests have the opportunity to choose between three tours. Nordic Food Lab, the pioneers at the forefront of New Nordic cuisine, will host a foraging expedition along the coast and into the countryside around Copenhagen. Alternatively a walking tour around Kodbyen will take in Copenhagen’s hip ‘White City’ meatpacking district, before a visit to food hall Torverhallerne. Finally, Wonderful Copenhagen is hosting a boat tour looking at exciting new hospitality venues and sites for new hotel development on the waterfront.

Pre-dinner drinks at Generator – the new hotel/hostel concept taking Europe by storm – will be followed by a dinner at which guests will be joined by local luminaries from the worlds of hospitality, design, architecture and gastronomy.

The following morning, and new for this year’s Sleepover, the organisers have teamed up with Arup’s Foresight & Innovation department to host a ‘Tomorrow’s Hotel’ workshop at the Danish Design Center. This highly interactive session will investigate what the hotel restaurant of the future might look like, as well as the future of food in hotels.

Event organizer Matt Turner, Editor of Sleeper Magazine, commented: “Following our successful events in Berlin and Amsterdam we are delighted to be bringing Sleepover to Copenhagen. Danish food, design, television and culture are garnering huge interest at the moment, and we are looking forward to working with our various partners across the city to give our guests a real flavour for the city, as well as a taste of the future through our ‘Tomorrow’s Hotel’ collaboration with Arup. We are also thrilled to have the support of some of Denmark’s leading design brands for this year’s event.”
