Sleep announces new features

Sleep, Europe’s hotel design and development event, has announced a series of new features for 2016.

New additions will include Modulex’s Sleepwalking concept, an intelligent signage solution that aims to disrupt unconscious behaviours and spark curiosity through a wayfinding system that embraces landmarks, icons and other signage.

Elsewhere, an immersive virtual reality lounge will offer guests the chance to experience hotel designs in 3D, hosted by technology firm Solius in collaboration with design consultancy Graven. The installation will incorporate technology including the recently launched HTC Vive, which allows users to walk around a virtual space using their own footsteps, the latest Oculus Rift headset, and the new Sublime Portal, a state of the art shared immersion experience.

In a change from previous years, the ceremony announcing the winner of the Sleep Set competition will take place at lunchtime on 23 November, the second day of the event. The built guestroom feature will see five participating companies each designing a room for a different socio-demographic group as identified by the SINUS Institute. The participants will then explain their concepts to a panel of judges in a conference session ahead of the winner being announced. The guestroom installations can be experienced throughout the duration of the event.

Sleep will this year be partnering with University of West London to host the autumn intake of MA Luxury Hospitality Management students, who will compete in their own Science of Tribes competition. Students will work with the same socio-demographic groups as the Sleep Set participants, and explore the entire product-development process. The students will also attend day two of Sleep for a critique of their schemes, which will be on display, and for the announcement of the winning team.

Sleep will take place on 22-23 November at the Business Design Centre in London.
