Despite cancelling its 2020 edition last week after an initial postponement, those involved with Salone del Mobile.Milano have come together to help Italy in its fight against Covid-19.
Thanks to the mobilisation of the Chinese design sector, and the input of VNU Exhibitions Asia – organisers of Salone del Mobile.Milano Shanghai along with FLA China – FederlegnoArredo and Salone del Mobile.Milano have collected 545,000 surgical masks (types FFP2, FFP3, KN95 and N95) at the Italian Embassy in Beijing, which will be delivered to the Italian Red Cross and distributed amongst the health facilities most in need of immediate help.
The release notes that this gesture functions as a way of repaying Italy for its critical early support to China, underscoring the deepening ties between the Chinese and Italian design sectors, facilitated in part by events like Milan Design Week, which – under normal circumstances – attracts a worldwide audience.
“The Italian furniture and design industry has achieved amazing results in China over the last 20 years, and this has been made possible also thanks to the strong ties and friendship between Italian and Chinese professionals,” say Salone del Mobile. “This initiative, coordinated by VNU Exhibitions is thus not just an invaluable gesture of friendship and a means of helping Italy at this delicate time, it is also an expression of the desire and hope that we will all be able to start working together again as soon as possible.”
