Focus/18 announces programme highlights
Focus/18 will return to Design Centre Chelsea Harbour from 16-21 September for six days of dynamic programming including more than 100 experimental sessions, workshops, conversation and more under the unifying theme of colour. Welcoming visitors from around the globe, this year’s event will seek to bring the design community together across 120 showrooms, showcasing the work of more than 600 international brands.
This year’s Conversations in Design series will bring together established influential figures and rising industry stars, with the annual talks schedule including Veere Greeney and Nina Campbell; Timothy Corrigan; designer Allegra Hicks in conversation with photographer Miguel Flores Vianna, as well as discussions with Fran Hickman, David Bentheim, Karen Howes and Rachel Chudley, who will share their stories, ideas and creative visions.
Elsewhere, a new installation by artist Moritz Waldemeyer – titled Journey of Colour – will offer an immersive experience of light, colour and motion. Taking inspiration from coronas, the crown-like appearance around the sun during an eclipse, LED technology will light up as visitors move back and forth along a 12-metre walkway, with guests able to choose their favourite colours to be projected from the new collections showcased.
Continuing the colour theme, a series of workshop will explore how colour can inform design aesthetic, both consciously and subconsciously. Georgia Coleridge will discuss the healing power of colour, while Sanderson will host a psychology of colour workshop in the Style Library showroom, discussing the transformative power that shade and hue has on emotions, and how guests feel in a space.
Also featuring at this year’s edition, Kit Kemp and her Firmdale team will create a Caribbean bedroom suite for the Turnell & Gigon at Home pop-up showroom; Patrick Frey will discuss the design legacy of his grandfather René Prou in the Pierre Frey showroom; Michelle Ogundehin and Arteriors’ founder & creative director Mark Moussa will discuss the Designer Interpretation series; Cole & Son will reveal the evolution of its new collection; Porta Romana will hold an exhibition celebrating its 30th anniversary, and the window at Style Library will see a collaboration between Sanderson and British accessories brand, Radley.
Meanwhile, lighting designer Rebecca Weir will host a series of talks on The Colour of Light at Crestron EMEA; international interior designer Alexandra Champalimaud will fly from New York to launch her latest outdoor collection at Holland & Sherry; Artisans of Devizes will host a gallery experience to showcase the tile collaboration with artist Michael Angrove; and to coincide with the launch of its Tribal Lampshade collection, Vaughan will hold a lampshade workshop.
Focus/18 is a Design Destination at London Design Festival, and will open each day at 10am. You can register for tickets here.
