Installations and debuts at CDW

Taking place on 24-26th May, Clerkenwell Design Week has announced collaborations, installations and product debuts for this year’s event.

Home to scores of world class design showrooms, Clerkenwell provides the perfect setting for the design savvy and design curious to explore, spectate and celebrate in the world of design and innovation. Clerkenwell Design Week 2016 is poised to deliver an ambitious lineup of premier names in hotel product design and innovation from Bene, Orangebox, Domus, Vitra and others.  The showrooms form the bedrock of Clerkenwell, and throughout CDW the spaces offer a window into the very best in contemporary manufacture and design, showcasing the latest products and concepts, for contract, architecture and interior design.

As an orientation point for visitors, Brewhouse Yard will be temporarily transformed for the festival, acting as a gateway to Clerkenwell’s showrooms. Working with local partners, the Yard’s resident architecture practices Studio Egret West and BDP will transform large parts of the public domain to celebrate CDW with a dedicated café, information point, pop-up workspace for visitors, and programme of events, with workplace furniture experts Naughtone showcasing their 100% UK made pieces as well as inviting guests to its pop-up gin bar.

Creative interventions are taking place in 2016, with collaborations and commissions made especially for CDW, including Sam Jacob’s ‘One Thing After Another’, focusing on the input and output of information between the digital and physical worlds; and, Hassell and Hag’s ‘Sensorium’ taking guests on a journey through an urban pleasure garden.

The 2016 showcase will feature a host of newcomers to CDW including furniture designers Allermiur, and, the British designed modular furniture brand Isomi by Paul Crofts; whilst new showroom BD Design intends to bring the works of Salvidor Dali to life with handcrafted pieces from Barcelona. In order to make design more inclusive, DesigningFutures@CDW will launch its new programme that aims to give youngsters access to world of design.

Other highlights include vibrant and visually stunning fabric collections from Helen Yardley and Tom Dixon in collaboration with ege carpets; Flooring experts Milliken and Flooring Concepts; bathroom pioneers Toto and West One Bathrooms, as well as, contract furniture firms Hitch Mylius and Vitra. Whilst Bene, Orangebox and others focus on inspiring workplaces with Bene’s ‘Nice Wall’ display and Orangebox’s ‘Living lab’ poised to attract the intrigue of designers and hoteliers alike.

With over 80 brands registered, Clerkenwell Design Week 2016 promises to showcase a masterclass in contemporary design.
