100% Design reveals talk programme

100% Design has revealed the scheduled speakers for this year’s talk programme, which takes place during the trade show from 23-26 September.

The uniting theme for 2015 is ‘The Sensual World’, and the planned discussions hope to investigate how our lives are enriched with colour and by the senses. In its new home Olympia London, the talks series is curated by Caro Communications’ Content Director, Claire Barrett, in collaboration with international colour psychology expert Karen Haller; the auditorium has been specially designed by textile artist and designer Anne Kyyrö Quinn.

This year, for the first time, 100% Design also features a fully programmed additional stage as part of its talk series. The Forum delivers practical advice to designers, with tips and inspiration for individuals and businesses, large and small.

On 23 September, Sarah Miller, CEO of Sarah Miller and Partners, will chair a talk on the psychology of hotel rooms. Focusing on the role of colour, speakers include Fiona Thompson, Principal at hospitality design firm Richmond International; James Lohan, founder of Mr & Mrs Smith (pictured with co-founder Tamara Heber-Percy); and colour psychology expert, Angela Wright. Earlier in the day, colour historian Jenny Balfour Paul will explore why certain colours have become culturally significant, while Maria Kafel-Bentkowska, Senior CMF Designer at global design and brand experience consultancy Priestmangoode, will speak about using colour on international projects and the sensitivities that designers need to consider.

Throughout the rest of the event, discussion will contemplate the role of sound and scent in branding and architecture, as well as more broad topics, with talks such as ‘From drawing board to production’, and a masterclass on how to make social media work for business, with Daniel Nelson from October Communications, interior designers 2LG, and Gemma Smith from online platform Houzz.
