100% Design details programming
Taking place at London Olympia from 19 – 22 September, the 24th edition of 100% Design returns with a shake-up to its traditional programming. The three-day event will present two new features, 100% Futures and 100% Forward, which will focus on emerging designers across innovation and furniture design respectively.
100% Futures, spearheaded by Max Fraser, will shine a light on emerging designs under the theme ‘Designing for London’ across travel, technology, wellbeing, public spaces and sustainability. The programme will also share designs from other cities, looking at ideas around the future of city-living and the best of designing for urban centres across the world.
Meanwhile, 100% Forward has been curated by journalist Barbara Chandler and highlights eight emerging design talents across furniture, product, lighting and textile design – with each championed by an established designer. Simon Pengelly, who started his career in 1993 when he presented at 100% Design, has selected rising talent Daniel Schofield. In his first five years, Schofield has honed a reductive approach to materials, form and function to create celebrated lighting, furniture and tabletop products.
Also new to the agenda is West Kensington Design District – brought to life by the Design Museum – where V&A Blythe House are set to offer guided tours and Polish brand Zieta will present Plopp 4.0 at Arthill Gallery. Elsewhere, the events core exhibition covers of Interiors, Kitchens, Bathrooms and Bedrooms will be joined by 100% Build London, a dedicated show for the construction and architectural industries.
Providing a platform for a mix of new interior brands, 100% Design’s line-up features One Plus Eleven, a conceptual furniture company that blurs the boundary between art and design, as well as established names such as Arper. Other brands to watch include Casa Botelho; Rubn; B Sweden; Graypants by Pad Home; Antonio Lupi; Oddott; Taamaa; Tuuci; Lyon Beton; Frama; Pintaark; Adventures in Furniture and Madheke.
Further, Philippe Starck is set to showcase a prefabricated house with Riko, a Slovenian engineering and manufacturing brand that specialises in industrial prefabrication and energy production technology. Riko first teamed up with Starck in 2014 to unveil a new home featuring rooftop energy producing technologies, wind turbines, rainwater recovery and heating pumps.
Running concurrently with the exhibition, Talks With 100% Design also returns with a series of inspiring sessions, reflecting the very best in global design, emerging talents and the changing landscape of London’s creative communities.
