Holloway Li has been appointed to design Tripolers Oasis, the group’s debut boutique spa-hotel, slated to open in 2026.
Situated in a lush working vineyard at the edge of the renowned Singing Sand Dunes in Dunhuang, China, the resort will feature 15 private villas, positioned strategically along the edge of the site to maximise privacy, whilst showcasing the picturesque surroundings; as well as two-storey suite blocks set deeper within the grounds, complete with roof terraces. Public areas will include a lobby, restaurant, bar and lounge, boutique shop and spa facilities, all connected via sandy courtyards that lead to an outdoor pool and fire pit.
Inspired by the Japanese aesthetic wabi-sabi, Holloway Li’s vision embraces simplicity, imperfection and the passage of time, incorporating reclaimed materials to create spaces that are both rustic and refined. Earthy tones and natural textures such as clay, teak and stone will be used with local building techniques, alongside carefully curated furniture and artwork that celebrate local craftsmanship.
For the accommodation interiors, the design studio looked to the nearby Mogao Caves for inspiration, where monks, merchants and travellers have sought respite for centuries. As such, colour schemes are guided by the three primary pigments found in the cave murals – Tubai (clary white), Shashi (sandy yellow) and Zhusha (earthy red) – reinforcing a deep connection between the guest experience and the region’s cultural legacy.
“We were stunned by the incredible site for Tripolers Oasis Hotel and the opportunity to create a truly world-class offering,” says Na Li, Managing Director, Holloway Li. “Vicky and Ma’s vision aligned with ours, and we are excited to work alongside our long-term local collaborators GAD and Z’scape to bring this breathtaking scheme to life.”
“We are excited to partner with the award-winning team at Holloway Li to help develop the vision for Tripolers Oasis in Dunhuang,” adds Wenhai Ma, Chairman of Tripolers Group. “They are the perfect partner to create a unique resort that celebrates the simple and raw beauty of the surrounding nature.”
