Rixos Hotels opens latest outpost amidst transformation of Ottoman naval shipyards
Rixos Hotels has announced the opening of Rixos Tersane Istanbul, its thirteenth hotel in Türkiye.
Nestled in the Golden Horn estuary of the Bosphorus river, the new flagship Rixos property is part of a development that will see the transformation of historic Ottoman naval shipyards, turning them into the beating heart of Istanbul once again. Two firms were involved in the design and architecture of the property: Turkish Tabanlıoğlu Architects and LA-based Powerstrip Studio.
The property comprises 432 guestrooms and 67 luxury suites, 55 of which have their own outdoor terraces. Additional amenities meanwhile include an all-day dining concept, a cigar lounge, heated swimming pool, sports club and 2,027m² ballroom.
Inspired by its location, the hotel has curated a special art collection under the theme of cultural sustainability. The collection will feature contemporary artworks by both local and international artists, accompanied by a catalogue and digital archive.
“The revitalisation of the 600-year-old Tersane Istanbul reflects the most valuable elements of Istanbul’s cultural and industrial heritage,” says Fettah Tamince, Chairman of the Board of Rixos Hotels. “Thanks to the vision of our esteemed President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and the efforts of our Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, we are restoring it as a modern living space for the citizens of Istanbul.”
Tamince adds: “The first phase of the project has been completed with an exemplary conservational approach. Rixos Tersane Istanbul, which has opened in this unique area, is about to become a part of the city’s memory, and will bring a brand-new perspective to urban hospitality, making a significant contribution to the economy and employment. Rixos Tersane Istanbul will also play an important role in passing down this deep-rooted cultural heritage to future generations.”
