Grand Wailea, A Waldorf Astoria Resort unveils largest open-air spa in Hawaii

Grand Wailea, A Waldorf Astoria Resort has announced the opening of its Kilolani Spa, the largest in the state of Hawaii.

The new 50,000ft² open-air spa has been designed to preserve the heritage of the landmark hotel and honor local traditions. Facilities include 40 treatment rooms, a meditation and reflection lounge, as well as halotherapy-infused infrared saunas, a hammam and hydrothermal gardens. The gardens feature cleansing showers, a sauna, steam room, vitality pool and waterfall showers, while connecting the spaces is a hydrothermal circuit designed to welcome groups to experience wellness together.

Tihany Design are behind the spa’s design, which takes inspiration from the Kilolani, Hawaiian stargazers who used the moon to guide all aspects of daily life. The studio has infused the spirit of the Kilolani through a series of open-air spaces which embrace Hawaii’s natural beauty.

The spa’s concept, which centers on the Hawaiian moon calendar, was developed by Grand Wailea’s in-house cultural and wellness team in collaboration with TLEE Spas + Wellness, and Rachael McCrory, Hilton’s Regional Director of Spa & Wellness.

“Kilolani Spa truly embodies our commitment to honoring Maui’s rich wellness culture, while embracing the modern innovations of the spa industry,” says JP Oliver, Managing Director of the hotel. “We look forward to offering our guests personalised treatments imbued with local influences, natural ingredients and the aloha spirit.”

Tracy Lee, President + Founder of TLEE Spas, adds: “We are thrilled to introduce guests to Kilolani Spa, where they can feel truly immersed in the spirit of Maui. It was important to create an experience that honors and connects guests to Hawaii’s deep and diverse culture and wellness traditions.”
