Italian design hotel opening in former leather goods factory
A new hotel chronicling 60 years of Italian design will open its doors in June in the quaint town of Tolentino, envisioned by local firm Studio Ora.
The hotel, named Interno Marche, will find home in the Art Nouveau villa that housed the Nazareno Gabrielli leather goods company for six decades, and later became the headquarters of Poltrona Frau in 1962. Interno Marche will breathe new life into the former Villa Gabrielli, adapting expansive 20th century factory areas and former tanning vats.
The 3600m² hotel pays tribute to Poltrona Frau visionary Franco Moschini and the wider history of international design. It comprises 25 uniquely curated rooms and five long-stay suites, each paying homage to a renowned designer and one of the five stylistic movements of the 20th century. Michele De Lucchi, Marc Newson, Gae Aulenti, Vico Magistretti, Giò Ponti and Achille Castiglioni are among the designers whose legacies are celebrated throughout.
The property functions as a house-museum of sorts, inviting guests on a journey through the styles and furnishings that have shaped interior design over the past sixty years. Over 400 unique objects have been selected – including bespoke pieces – to narrate the hotel’s story.
A lobby, breakfast room and lounge bar are located in the large three-bay hall that was once the heart of the factory’s production. A bistro restaurant, spa and gym meanwhile are nestled on the ground floor with direct access to the garden.
The inauguration of Interno Marche marks the culmination of a collaborative effort involving a diverse team of professionals, including seven architects, two restorers, four geologists and three interior designers.
