Marriott International bringing W Hotels to Manchester
Marriott International has signed an agreement with Relentless Developments and Salboy Ltd to bring W Hotels to Manchester. Slated to open Q1 2027 within the city’s St Michael’s development, the 162-key W Manchester will be the brand’s third property in the UK.
Forming part of a wider 180,000ft² mixed-use development, W Manchester will be surrounded by work, residential and retail space. The development’s central square, with its retail and café culture, will be a public space serving as a backdrop for hotel guests.
Design plans for the property include signature spaces such as the Living Room, Wet Deck, W Lounge, Away Spa and a fitness centre. The hotel is also expected to comprise two restaurants and its own retail space.
“W Hotels dynamic style and forward-thinking culture is a perfect brand fit both for Manchester – a city famed for its music and art scene – and St Michael’s with Relentless and Salboy at the helm of the development,” said Paul Thomas, Vice President – Development, UK and Ireland, Marriott International. “St Michael’s offers world-class working, residential and retail space, it is the ideal partner for the next UK W Hotel.”
Gary Neville, Director, Relentless Developments, added: “Manchester is a bold city that continues to defy expectations and one that embodies the very same values that have made the W Hotel experience world-renowned, such as originality and passion.
“For years, Manchester has endured the absence of another fantastic luxury hotel so I’m really happy with the signing of this agreement. The long-term tourism impact and economic growth W Hotels’ presence will bring is exactly why we set out to create St Michael’s 15 years ago. I’d like to thank Marriott International for seeing the immense potential of this scheme and for trusting in our vision of St Michael’s as a world-class leisure destination.”
