First Look: Rosewood Munich
Rosewood Munich, the first German property from Rosewood Hotels & Resorts, will begin welcoming guests from September 2023.
Housed in two historical buildings – formerly the headquarters of the State Bank of Bavaria and aristocratic residence Palais Neuhaus-Preysing – Rosewood Munich has been designed by Munich-based architectural firm Hilmer Sattler and London interior architectural design studio Tara Bernerd & Partners. Seeking to bring the buildings’ legacy into the modern world, the designers have created a hotel that is a contemporary interpretation of Baroque architecture.
Interiors have been crafted to create a mansion-like ambience, with designs merging history with modern influences. The historic entrance hall of the hotel, with its vaulted ceilings, has been preserved from the building’s time as a bank, with purposeful lighting drawing attention to archival elements like an ornate ceiling fresco. The central courtyard, a typical design feature in Munich’s old town, has also been carefully restored.
“Rosewood Munich is our first project in Germany with Rosewood Hotels & Resorts and is a key moment for us,” said Tara Bernerd, founder of Tara Bernerd & Partners. “We have sought to bring a refined residential style with a contemporary take on Baroque architecture. This elevated sense of sophistication will provide a place for locals and distinguished travelers to come together in this vibrant and eclectic city.”
Rosewood Munich will house a 1,300m² integrative wellness destination, Asaya Spa, which will span two floors and include an indoor pool, two saunas, one steam room, six treatment rooms, a wellness suite for private spa experiences, and a fitness centre.
Roland Duerr, Managing Director of Rosewood Munich, adds: “We are eager to welcome guests to Rosewood Munich this fall. Our sublime setting, within these two magnificent buildings situated in the center of the city, provides the perfect canvas for Rosewood’s guiding A Sense of Place® philosophy. We look forward to contributing to the rich culture and hospitality of this vibrant community and creating unforgettable memories for our visitors from near and far.”
Food and beverage will be offered up at the hotel’s Alpine-inspired brasserie Cuvilliés, where dishes will be rooted in the cultural heritage of the region and neighbouring nations of Austria and Italy. Bar Montez will offer a refined selection of handcrafted signature cocktails, an extensive wine list, and a range of spirits.
