Behind the design of Butaque by Luteca
The Butaque chair, designed by Clara Porset for Luteca, is a relaxed seating form suitable for a range of hospitality interiors.
A fierce proponent of historical craft traditions, Porset has become synonymous with her reimagining of the classic Latin American Butaque chair. Through her eyes, the low-slung, X-frame shaped chair is a curved, ergonomic shape, enhanced further by its pairing with rich, natural materials like oak, mahogany, wicker and leather in many different iterations.
Based on the designs that Porset originally created for architect Luis Barragán, the chair has been crafted for interior use, adaptable with a frame in either maple or iroko, and a seat in either tan hide or black hide.
Luteca presents designs that are at the crossroads of Mexican heritage and European innovation, bringing together diverse cultural strands and historical influences to create furniture with a uniquely Mexican soul, celebrating a holistic vision of Mexican artistry.
