Icon of the Seas completes first round of sea trials

Royal Caribbean International’s Icon of the Seas has reached its next construction milestone. The ship has made a foray into the open ocean for the first time, successfully completing an initial round of sea trials.

The successful voyage saw more than 2,000 specialists and four 37- to 67-ton tugboats coming together for more than 350 hours of work, with the ship travelling hundreds of miles for its first ocean trial.

Moving forwards, the next step in Icon’s journey to completion will be a second round of sea trials later this year, ahead of its intended debut in Miami in January 2024.

When it takes to the water, Icon of the Seas will offer 2,805 staterooms for 7-night Eastern and Western Caribbean cruises all year long, with 20 total decks, seven pools and sick waterslides on board, as well as more than 40 drinking, dining and entertainment venues.
