Sabi Sabi Private Game Reserve has unveiled its newly refurbished suites at Bush Lodge, the original lodge in the reserve’s collection. Designed by Dakota Designs, the new suites bring together an array of rich textures, botanical elements and custom South African artworks.

Drawing on the surrounding landscape, the suite’s designers have opted for a colour palette of earthy, natural hues, accompanied by artisanal fabrics by South African artist Sarah Kelly, which feature pops of verdant green and warm ochre tones, adorned with fauna and flora motifs. A selection of watercolour pieces in the suites are also courtesy of Kelly, flanking the bed – which now faces outward, offering riverbed and bush greenery views in many of the suites. The suite’s centrepiece is a Chinoiserie-inspired drinks cabinet, offering a range of South African craft beverages which might be sipped under the suite’s pergola, or upon the newly-upholstered daybeds.

Sabi Sabi Bush Lodge Interiors

High timber beams in the suites pay homage to Bush Lodge‘s history throughout the past four decades, whilst a modern quartz floor has been added for an additional touch of sophistication. The design studio has placed a particular focus on the suite’s ambience, with new light mounted atop the wood creating a gentle glow, and directional lights highlighting features like the dressing room.

In the bathroom, designers have installed vanity lighting to bring in extra brightness and warmth, and a new minimalist black vanity unit sees two basins resting on a timber slab and gold hardware accents. Unique design additions come in the form of a black splash placed behind the basins, and a custom wood sculpture inspired by networks of termites. The bathroom includes a free-standing bath, as well as an ottoman and nesting table in the centre of the space. For those a little more outdoor-minded, the new suites will also offer the opportunity for an outdoor shower.
