The Pig Group has shared plans to add two new properties to its collection, in 2024 and 2025 respectively. Subjecting to obtaining planning permission, two listed buildings near Stratford-Upon-Avon and Tunbridge Wells will be the sites of the new openings.
Opening just south of Stratford-Upon-Avon in 2024 will be The Pig-on the Farm, a mid-16th century stone-built farmhouse set amongst 53 acres of pasture and arable land. Previously owned by the Mordaunt family, the property includes parts of a deserted Medieval village, as well as a major tributary to the River Dene.
The group’s 2025 opening will be The Pig-at Groombridge, a moated manor house – the backdrop to the likes of Keira Knightley’s Pride & Prejudice – in the village of Groombridge, southwest of Tunbridge Wells. The building, originally built in 1662 by architect Philip Packer, will be converted, with initial plans envisioning it as a 40-plus key property with striking views across its gardens and vineyard.
As is characteristic of all Pig properties, the new openings will continue with the group’s ethos of running as ‘restaurants with rooms’, with their restaurants focusing on local produce. Within the properties, acres of vegetable and fruit production will be accompanied by a mushroom growing house, on-site smokery, and sheep, hens and quail.
“We are excited to acquire two genuinely unspoilt listed gems. We look forward to doing these beautiful buildings justice and restoring them sensitively, with their historic importance at the forefront of our decision making,” Robin Hutson, Chairman, comments. “These fascinating buildings complement our existing portfolio, with each of them situated some distance from our other hotels. As with all of our hotels, we hope to create these with unique characteristics yet still very much designed with the quality of detail that has become the Pig look.”
