JW Marriott debuts in Spain
JW Marriott, part of Marriott Bonvoy’s global portfolio of 30 hotel brands, has opened its first property in Spain. JW Marriott Hotel Madrid finds home in the heart of the city – a relaxing urban retreat amidst the bustle of Madrid.
Located in the Canalejas zone, the 139-room hotel has been designed as a space of reflection and recharging in the city. Previously one of the oldest perfumeries in Madrid, the building has a unique legacy that designers have sought to shine through its current iteration. The hotel’s architecture and design have been led by Rockwell Group, who have opted for natural materials and a neutral colour palette throughout. Touches of the building’s historic past remain visible through elements like wrought iron columns, which have been preserved from the 19th century.
Additional amenities throughout the property include a patio garden – where ingredients used in the hotel’s restaurant and cocktail bar, Qu, are grown – a Fitness Room, Wellness Space and large terraces attached to most suites. Within guestrooms, further facilities maximise wellness experiences: yoga mats and complimentary access to video workouts and meditation practices through QR codes, for instance, and a bath menu with unique playlists and customisable light setups for a private spa experience.
“With each new opening, JW Marriott brings a legacy of luxury hospitality combined with the brand’s foundation of holistic wellbeing,” comments Candice D Cruz, Vice President of Marriott International’s Luxury Brands in Europe, Middle East and Africa. “JW Marriott Hotel Madrid captures the essence of the city and encourages guests to disconnect from stress and distractions so that they can focus on reconnecting with what matters most to them.”
Leaning into its parfumerie history, JW Marriott Hotel Madrid has collaborated with the Spanish Academy of Perfume to create a holistic wellness experience across the property. Guests are welcomed with a traditional violet or rosemary-scented tea upon check-in, at which point they are also invited to choose from one of five “Madrid scents” to be placed in their wardrobe. Stories about Madrid and its aromas are found on bedside tables, while the lobby holds an exhibition that features antique perfume bottles, books and essences.
