Marina Riviera

Californian mountain destination completes renovations

Marina Riviera has unveiled its redesigned guestrooms and cabins, following restoration by Casetta Group. The redesigned boutique hotel, a property which has been created to embody the great outdoors, finds home in Southern California’s mountain town of Big Bear Lake.

The restoration of the 1968 Viking inspired-lodge sees it immersed in refined modern mountain comfort. Light timber cladding wraps around the property’s three-storey façade and open-air corridors, which lead on to 42 guestrooms in the main lodge. The hotel also comprises six two-bedroom cabins located across Big Bear Boulevard.

Guestroom interiors, led by design firm Electric Bowery, draw inspiration from Big Bear’s natural surroundings and are influenced by classic ski lodge design. Cosy stove fireplaces and bold, moody hues capture the energy of a mountain escape in a palette reflective of the wooded environs. In the bathrooms, meanwhile, richly coloured zellige tiles recall the alpine and lakefront setting. Vintage nature-inspired art, natural wood and stone, and autumnal colours are threaded through the guestrooms, providing warmth alongside layered materiality. All guestrooms boast lakeside views, many with private balconies.

“Big Bear is not only a destination special to us but one our guests want to visit. Travelers now have three different ways to experience the best of Southern California through the Casetta lens, from the mountains in Big Bear to the Palm Springs desert at Casa Cody and the beach with The Pearl Hotel in San Diego,” comments Carolyn Schneider, Casetta Group co-founder. “With Marina Riviera, we wanted to honour its 1960s heritage and architecture, so we returned the hotel to its original namesake and identity while upgrading the design, amenities, and overall guest experience.”

The property’s cabins have also been renovated, designed by Hausman Creative. The cabins comprise two bedrooms, a bathroom, kitchen and living room space with a fireplace. Mid-century inspired and residential in design, they form standalone units in addition to Marina Riviera’s main site.

All guestrooms and cabins at Marina Riviera are equipped with Casetta’s eco-friendly amenities, including Parachute Home bedding and bath linens, toxin-free PlantPaper toilet paper, certified organic MoonCloth Designs bath products and custom-designed Finery bathrobes.

Further additions to the property will come later in the year, with an onsite private beach, swimming pool, hot tub, sauna, outdoor fire pits and a bar and restaurant set for opening.
