Anantara Grand Hotel Convento di Amalfi Restaurant

Amalfi opening announced by Minor Hotels

Minor Hotels has announced plans to continue its European expansion with the launch of Anantara Grand Hotel Convento di Amalfi in Spring 2023. The hotel will open following the extensive renovation of a 13th century monastery and the former Cappuccini Friars Convent.

Perched upon a clifftop 80m above sea level, the 800-year-old building has been re-imagined through a careful balance of conservation and restoration, seeking to preserve the original exterior whilst injecting warmth and contemporary elements into the interior.

In the property’s 52 guestrooms and suites – situated in the original monks’ quarters – historic tiled flooring, vaulted ceilings and lime-washed walls will be carefully preserved. The on-site Baroque church, popular for wedding ceremonies, will maintain its heritage marble altar and Majolica floor.

“We are taking great care to restore the building to strict historic preservation guidelines while adding a contemporary look and feel to the rooms and public areas,” says Dillip Rajakarier, CEO of Minor Hotels.

As well as preservation, the site will welcome some new additions, including the incorporation of new textiles, sculptural furniture and locally-sourced contemporary art. As for leisure spaces, the resort’s swimming pool will also be redesigned to integrate custom-made furniture, while a new relaxation area will face outward towards the sea. A brand-new, travertine-clad Anantara Spa will also comprise three treatment rooms, the designs of which are set to be infused with the historic site’s monastic spirituality.

Finally, the bar and lounge area will be transformed with contemporary lighting, statement rugs and cream-hued furniture. The restaurant’s latticed metal dividers and monastic boiserie panels, meanwhile, will form a dramatic contrast.

Formerly operating as NH Collection Grand Hotel Convento di Amalfi, Anantara Grand Hotel Convento di Amalfi will be the second Anantara property in Italy, and the brand’s eighth in Europe.
