Hilton signs third Waldorf Astoria in Mexico
Hilton Worldwide has announced the signing of a third Waldorf Astoria in Mexico, which is expected to open in early 2025.
Owned by Peakair Group and being developed by Skyplus Developments Corp, the newbuild property will comprise 120 guestrooms and 24 branded residences, as well as a destination-inspired spa, rooftop space with pools and relaxation areas, and an on-site art gallery and local artisan crafts store. The culinary offer will include three restaurants, two bars and a coffee shop.
“As global interest in luxury travel continues to rise, we are perfectly positioned at the forefront of the trend by expanding our offerings to welcome the discerning traveler in new and highly desirable destinations across the Caribbean and Latin America,” says Juan Corvinos, Senior Vice President of Development, Architecture & Construction for the Caribbean and Latin America at Hilton. “We are excited about the growth of our portfolio in the region and introducing our distinct brands in landmark locations, such as San Miguel de Allende. The city’s timeless surroundings and recognition as a luxury vacation spot make it a natural fit for the Waldorf Astoria brand.”
With the arrival of Waldorf Astoria San Miguel de Allende, Hilton will add another luxury destination to its global portfolio of more than 30 hotels and resorts, as well as 18 residential properties either open or in development. The addition strengthens Hilton’s presence in Mexico, following the launch of Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos Pedregal, Conrad Punta de Mita, Conrad Tulum Riviera Maya, and the recently opened Waldorf Astoria Cancun. Hilton’s growth in the country forms part of the company’s broader expansion plans, where guests are currently welcomed at approximately 90 hotels and resorts across 12 Hilton brands, and around 25 additional properties make up the development pipeline.
Waldorf Astoria San Miguel de Allende will be located in the heart of a UNESCO World Heritage site, surrounded by cobblestone streets and brightly coloured Spanish-colonial buildings. Guests will be within walking distance of popular attractions such as Neo-Gothic church Parroquia de San Miguel Arcángel – a structure that rises above the city’s main centre plaza. The hotel will also offer access to local restaurants, bars and shops.
Dino Michael, Senior Vice President and Global Head of Luxury Brands at Hilton, comments: “San Miguel de Allende has been recognised as one of the most enchanting cities in the world in recent years, and we are thrilled to marry that appeal with the iconic Waldorf Astoria brand, which is known for its sense of place and community for guests. Hilton’s growing luxury portfolio in Mexico, including two Conrad Hotels & Resorts properties and two Waldorf Astoria Resorts, has been met with incredible guest satisfaction, and we look forward to creating even more opportunities for travellers to discover the destination through unforgettable experiences at Waldorf Astoria San Miguel de Allende.”
Throughout the Caribbean and Latin America, Hilton currently has a portfolio of 200 hotels, and a development pipeline of more than 100 hotels in various stages of design and construction.
