St Moritz’s La Margna undergoes redesign

St Moritz’s La Margna is set to reopen this winter as Grace La Margna St Moritz. Dating back to 1906, the property has been refreshed with a scheme that blends modern architecture and design with Art Nouveau.

Striking a balance between conservative and innovative, old and new was the challenge for London-based Divercity Architects and architects Blarer & Reber from Samedan, Switzerland. The result is a discreet extension that merges harmoniously into the alpine landscape and allows the original architecture to shine.

As a symbol of local tourism and the surrounding townscape, the hotel sits above the local railway station, with a panoramic view over Lake St Moritz. Thanks to an investment of over SFr 70 million, the site’s new extension will house guestrooms and a spa area located next to the original Art Nouveau development.

As such, the hotel will be be divided into two parts: the historic La Margna Wing and the modern Grace Wing. Among the 74 rooms and suites will be the Grace Penthouse Suite, comprising three bedrooms, a private roof terrace and its own jacuzzi. F&B will range from restaurants with a show kitchen and pizza oven to fine dining, while the lobby bar will fuse Swiss cocktail culture with live music and theatrical performances.

The 700m² spa meanwhile features a 20-metre pool, treatment rooms and mountain views. There’s also two saunas, a hammam, a private spa suite and a spa lounge. A fitness area comes complete with the latest equipment, and there’s a ski room with maintenance service. The reopening will also pave the way for brand collaborations and local partnerships, driven by the hotel’s connection to the surrounding community.
