Munich-based operator Ruby Hotels, led by founder and CEO Michael Struck, has launched its third Dusseldorf property in Kasernenstraße following previous openings in the KÖ-Galerie and Friedrichstadt.
Set within a former Commerzbank building, the 206-room hotel spans 13 floors and features a 24-hour bar, café and lounge on the ground floor. Interiors are inspired by the 1950s and 60s – which saw mankind step on the moon for the first time – with design elements bringing the Space Age to life. Rockets and space capsules can be found at every turn, while a ramp to the basement is decked with glass panels to offer a bird’s-eye view of the ground below. Ruby Luna’s bar, the longest of all Ruby hotels, also features gold-tinted panes, terrazzo and flagstone tiles that contrast with the exposed concrete of the public areas.
Ruby Luna’s flagship title is credit to its three publicly accessible outdoor areas: the terrace in front of the main entrance features the brand’s signature aesthetic; the Lunar Dunes courtyard is kitted out in the style of an extra-terrestrial desert landscape with its own UFO; and the rooftop Observatory Bar overlooks the city.
Ranging in size from cosy Nest rooms at 14-15 m² to expansive Loft rooms at 21-23 m², guestrooms showcase the brand’s sleep-scientist-approved formula, as well as full soundproofing, blackout curtains, high-quality linen, and extra-long and wide custom mattresses. The interiors boast white furnishings, high, open ceilings, integrated glass rainfall showers, wood wall panelling and oak floors for a luxury feel, whilst the design elements of the exterior façade are echoed in the cherry wood wall panelling and integrated blackout blinds. A Marshall amp in each room means guests can choose to play a personal playlist, plug in their own guitar or borrow one from reception. Visitors can also tune into Ruby Radio, the operator’s eponymous station.
“Dusseldorf is one of the most exciting cities in Germany,” says Struck, who has implemented the same ‘Lean Luxury’ philosophy as at the group’s other houses, combining a central location, premium fittings and a unique design at an affordable price. “It’s a no brainer that we would want to be represented here with three hotels and a workspace. Whilst our guests can benefit from more availability, locations and experiences, Ruby can benefit from the operational synergies in staffing and purchasing. We think and act long-term.”
