Hotel Okura Amsterdam has given seven of its suites a complete makeover. The renovation, which began in December 2019, included an entire overhaul of the previous design by architect Bert Verwey, who was tasked with creating a spacious, comfortable and serene ambience in both the suites and The Lounge.
Verwey – the same architect who redesigned the Twenty Third Bar and Ciel Bleu Restaurant in 2005 and 2015 respectively – opted for a minimalist design in the suites and The Lounge, which matches the hotel’s philosophy. The design includes silk wallcoverings and specially-produced carpets for the floors, while the suites are decorated with prints, sculptures and oil paintings by Dutch artist Joseph Cals.
Meanwhile, furniture and materials in subdued colours and textures combine with unobtrusive lightning to create a harmonious atmosphere. The style is restful and modern, but also provides a sense of warmth.
“At Hotel Okura Amsterdam, we strive for constant improvement and innovation,” says General Manager Michiel Roelfsema. “In collaboration with Bert Verwey, we have successfully encompassed the calm and serenity a guest experiences when they enter the hotel in a balanced and harmonious design.”
