Gekko Group has opened a 128-key hotel in Frankfurt’s emerging Gallus quarter. Designed by Morgen Interiors, Gekko House illustrates a more casual approach to the group’s popular Roomers brand.

The urban chic property – launched as a member of Marriott’s Tribute Portfolio – aims to serve the needs of business travellers, weekenders and artists alike. Interiors couple warm colour palettes, raw materials and custom furnishings, starting in the ground-floor lobby, which welcomes guests with cherry wood panelling, deep olive furnishings and tapestries. The space also features Gekko House Späti, a small shop selling artisanal drinks and snacks as well as typical Frankfurt souvenirs and amusing gimmicks.

In the guestrooms, meanwhile, exposed concrete walls complement wooden flooring, hand-blown glass lighting fixtures, olive green furniture and lavish velvet seating. Floor-to-ceiling windows bring in natural light, while a Marshall Music Box, Nespresso coffee machines and toiletries by Grown Alchemist accompany handy reads like a Gekko House City Guide and Marriott’s Make a Green Choice programme.

At the heart of the F&B programme is Chicago Williams, the Berlin-born barbecue concept established in 2012 by Nawid Samawat, a former employee at Gekko Group’s Roomers and Gerbermühle hotels. The restaurant serves German beer and meat specialties such as baby back ribs, beef brisket and macaroni cheese amidst an atmospheric backdrop of rich red tones, rough wooden flooring and copper detailing.

There’s also plans for a rooftop bar on the eight floor, which is set to open its doors in the summer.

“The arrival of Gekko House brings a whole new product to the Gekko Group portfolio and establishes new standards for the German hospitality industry,” say Micky Rosen and Alex Urseanu, founders of Gekko Group and Frankfurt natives themselves. “Unlike anything on the German market at present, the hotel provides a more casual concept without compromising on design, style and comfort. It’s a place where business travellers and tourists can come to unwind, let loose and enjoy.”

Next up for Gekko Group in Frankfurt is Roomers Parkview, a 136-key hotel due for completion in 2021.
