Chileno Bay Resort reveals redesign
Chileno Bay Resort & Residences, a 60-guestroom hotel complex by Auberge Resorts on the Baja California Peninsula, has announced the completion of its Bamo-designed renovations. Set amidst the 1,200 acre Chileno Bay Development, the hotel’s new scheme seeks to complement the surrounding environment through floor to ceiling windows, a combination of indoor-outdoor living spaces and the use of natural materials.
Dotting the landscape in symmetrical arrangements, a series of broad-ceiling buildings with stonewall and white plaster exteriors contrast with rugged land and sea, generating a contemporary, low-profile architectural identity from the off. In the lobby an open-air passageway greets guests with views over the bay, with the villas and guestrooms beyond channelling a light and airy tone. At the entry of the units are placed a selection of local art underneath deeply coloured plaster ceilings, whilst natural materials and a palette of cerulean blues and golden sand hues respond to the oceanfront setting.
The warmth of wood ceilings above balances the presence of limestone flooring, and a grid of stone walls become further architectural features, with soft white plaster completing the interior envelope. Wood is again introduced in clean-lined millwork and screens, as well as live-edge tabletops and organic side tables. Contemporary furnishings upholstered in linen, cotton, and leather feature throughout guestrooms, whilst encaustic tile – in a mix of modern geometrics and traditional patterns – appear as mini art installations within bathrooms. Hardware and furniture accents in dark bronze seek to complement warmer tones here, whilst a freestanding cast stone tub completes the space.
Outside, a 138m swimming pool stretches from the heart of the resort to the ocean’s edge; the result of a collaboration with Glazier Le Architects and Girvin Associate. The resort also features an ocean-edge restaurant for dining under the stars and extensive recreational activities including a golf course, spa, fitness centre, movement studio, kid’s club, and owners lounge.
