Focus/18 returns to Chelsea Harbour
Focus/18 at Design Centre, Chelsea Harbour is set to return as part of London Design Festival in September with a programme offering more than 100 experiential sessions, including talks, workshops and an exhibition featuring 120 showrooms and 600 international brands.
International artist Moritz Waldemeyer has been specially commissioned for the event to create Journey of Colour, an installation that offers an immersive experience of light, colour and movement. Taking inspiration from coronas – the crown-like appearance around the sun during an eclipse – the project is characterised by advanced LED technology, which will light up a kaleidoscope of colourways along a 12-metre walkway.
Elsewhere, Kit Kemp and her Firmdale team will create a Caribbean guestroom suite for the Turnell & Gigon at Home pop-up showroom; Patrick Frey will discuss the design legacy of his grandfather René Prou in the Pierre Frey showroom; Vaughan is set to hold a lampshade workshop to coincide with the launch of its Tribal Lampshade collection; and Michelle Ogundehin will talk about the Designer Interpretation series alongside Mark Moussa, founder & Creative Director of Arterior.
Style Library will further present a collaboration between Sanderson and British accessories brand, Radley, while lighting designer Rebecca Weir will host a series of talks on The Colour of Light at Crestron EMEA, and interior designer Alexandra Champalimaud is expected to launch her latest outdoor collection at Holland & Sherry.
Also on the agenda is the Conversations in Design series, a curated programme of talks and panel discussions with influential figures and emerging talents. On the line up are interior designers Veere Greeney and Nina Campbell; US talent Timothy Corrigan; designer Allegra Hicks in conversation with photographer Miguel Flores Vianna; and Fran Hickman, David Bentheim, Karen Howes and Rachel Chudley, who will share their ideas and creative vision.
Meanwhile, a series of workshops will highlight Focus/18’s key theme of colour, exploring how it informs design aesthetic, both consciously and subconsciously. Georgia Coleridge will discuss the healing power of colour, while Sanderson will host a psychology of colour workshop in the Style Library showroom, examining the transformative power that colour has on emotions and how we feel in a space.
