Niccolo Chongqing opens its doors atop CBD tower

Niccolo Chongqing, a 252-key hotel occupying the top ten levels of Tower 1 Chongqing IFS, has opened in the Chinese city’s central business district. Designed by HBA as an urban destination for the luxury traveller, the project comprises three restaurants, a tea lounge, bar, sky gym and sky pool, as well as ten function rooms, a ballroom, and a striking, glass-enclosed conservatory.

The lobby space is characterised by a simple colour palette and polished dark stone clad walls, while grey marble stretches across the floor with heavy veining. Situated adjacent, the pre-function and ballroom space incorporate a warm, neutral palette, reflective elements and textured wallcovering, contrasted with wood finishes. Four large chandeliers add a touch of classic luxury.

A dedicated fitness level features neutral coloured wood finishes to create a sense of relaxation, whilst beige stones dress the wall and floor. The sky pool resides here, clad in dark metal, neutral tile and marble surroundings. Elsewhere, the ceremonial hall and its conservatory space are designed to accommodate weddings and sizeable events, where floor-to-ceiling windows offer expansive views and sheer draperies, polished white marble and vertical metal sheet screens emphasise the panorama.

The hotel’s F&B offer includes Niccolo Kitchen, a casual space featuring a large slab of illuminated onyx as a centrepiece, the tranquil Tea Lounge – combining blue fabrics and black marble and set around a fireplace – and Bar 62, a smoky jazz club style venue serving artisan cocktails amidst glossy wood panels, and home to a Sawada lighting installation.

Guestroom variations include The Explorer Suite, the Sky Suite – the only lofted guestroom in the hotel, bridged by a contemporary staircase – and the Niccolo Suite, overlooking the cityscape and incorporating textured wallcoverings, pops of colour and an open plan layout comprising living and dining areas.
