La Residence Hue undergoes transformation
Vietnam’s La Residence Hue Hotel & Spa is wrapping up the first phase of a two-step renovation. Twelve years after opening, the 122-key property is undergoing a transformation that will see it move towards a more understated aesthetic, retaining its art deco appeal whilst altering layout and adding new facilities.
During this stage of renovations, the hotel has seen notable departures from its early years. The hotel’s all white facade is now ash-beige, whilst the bar has been removed from the rotunda lobby and rebuilt in one of the mansion’s wings, providing guests with a more dedicated lounge experience. Outside, the gardens feature curtailed hedging and new lights.
Its spa stays in the same place but takes up more of the ground floor location, whilst new facilities, furnishings and equipment will seek to improve the offer. The rooftop fitness centre, meanwhile, will relocate to a new venue beside the spa, and includes a new line of fitness equipment.
Elsewhere, The swimming pool will be shifted from its present location to a new spot outside the hotel’s flagship restaurant, Le Parfum, and is enhanced with a pool bar. A new 3-bedroom pool villa with a private heated pool will open on the banks of the Perfume River as a complement to the hotel’s historic mansion and two annexes.
“In true Hue fashion, we’ve been very conservative about changing the formula that’s worked so well for so long,” says Phan Trong Minh, the hotel’s general manager. “But the changes in the works now are only going to enhance the experience.”
Minh notes that the hotel has pursued a compartmentalised approach to the first series of changes, and will pursue the same approach throughout the second phase.
