Rosewood Phuket opens on Emerald Bay
The 71-key Rosewood Phuket has opened its doors on Emerald Bay in southwestern Phuket, Vietnam, nestled along 600 meters of one of the last remaining secluded beaches on the island. Its debut marks the first Southeast Asia resort for Rosewood Hotels & Resorts, as well as the unveiling of Asaya, Rosewood’s new wellness concept.
Inspired by the serenity and sophistication of beachside estates, the resort features pool pavilions and villas within a 43-acre landscape, creating a tropical beach hideaway from which guests can explore the hidden side of Thailand’s popular island destination. Guests are provided with convenient access to the numerous seaside towns along this stretch of coast, while Phuket’s cultural heart, the historic Old Town, is situated a short drive away.
Sonia Cheng, Chief Executive Officer of Rosewood Hotel Group, comments: “In design, art, cuisine and most especially in gracious service synonymous with Thai culture, at Rosewood Phuket our brand’s a sense of place philosophy has found a rich context in which to flourish. We are also thrilled that guests will experience our first Asaya, an innovative concept in holistic and integrative wellness journeys.”
Melbourne-based BARStudio has designed the resort, celebrating a diverse range of landscapes. An interpretation of Rosewood’s ‘A Sense of Place’ philosophy is expressed through a contemporary and environmentally sensitive architectural style that blends organically with the surroundings. Elsewhere, an abundance of floor-to-ceiling windows and open-sided spaces merge interiors with the outdoors.
Each sea-facing, residential-style guestroom further features interiors that blend east and west, with garden terraces featuring relaxed outdoor seating as well as daybeds, infinity pools and Andaman Sea views. The 130m² Ocean View Pool Pavilions, meanwhile, feature spacious bedroom and living room areas as well as an exterior courtyard with deep soaking bathtub and rain shower. Lastly, the 796m² Ocean House comprises a master bedroom, twin bedroom, separate living and dining rooms, garden courtyards and shady terraces.
Elsewhere, four distinct restaurants and bars showcase different perspectives of the resort’s beachfront setting. Ta Khai, a Thai seafood restaurant, features weathered timber pavilions and repurposed natural materials that creates the ambiance of a traditional fisherman’s village, with authentic dishes planned around the local fishermen’s daily catch. The Red Sauce Italian restaurant offers bay views from the relaxed outdoor terrace and a contemporary dining experience with open kitchen and interactive wine counter, whilst, located beside the beachfront pool, The Shack serves an array of seafood for casual dining and Mai, a chill-out lounge, offers drinks by the ocean.
The new Asaya concept is designed to encourage guests to discover their own path to wellness. At “Wellness Ateliers” upon arrival, staff create bespoke experiences for guests and help them choose organic, homegrown herbs and ingredients to be used in tailored treatments. Six suites include one signature wellness suite which caters to small groups of friends with dedicated treatment areas, outdoor relaxation spaces and Watsu pools.
“Our resort opens a window to a unique Phuket experience in this very special setting,” says Andrew Turner, Managing Director of Rosewood Phuket. “Be it a romantic getaway or family and friends holiday, a once-in-lifetime celebration or a journey to discover the hidden natural wonders of the island.”
