Fairmont lands in Istanbul
Fairmont Hotels & Resorts has announced the opening of Fairmont Quasar Istanbul, its first property in Turkey. Situated on the banks of the Bosphorus Strait, the hotel lands in the Mecidiyeköy district, where neighbourhood bazaars and colourful side streets meet shopping centres and modernity. Built on the site of the Robert Mallet Stevens-designed Art Deco liquor factory, it blends a sense of urban culture and industrial flair with the city’s storied heritage.
Comprising 209 guestrooms, each with a panoramic view of the skyline, the hotel is designed to reflect the city’s two distinct sides, incorporating blue leather-tufted headboards inspired by the Bosphorus; leather-bound and studded minibars that mimic vintage travel trunks; and ensuite showers designed to resemble traditional Turkish hammams. Elsewhere, The Royal Suite and forty exclusive Fairmont Gold guestrooms channel a boutique feel and offer access to a selection of exclusive services.
Dining venues include Aila, a Turkish style ocakbaşı grill and live mezze kitchen; Stations, inspired by the legacy of the old liquor factory and offering casual day dining; Demlique, a café with dark-wood herringbone floor and distinctive geometric ceiling; The Marble Bar; and Ukiyo, the property’s terrace bar. Guests can also relax in the Willow Stream Spa, a nine-room programme complete with traditional hammam, an indoor swimming pool, yoga room, and gym.
Chris Cahill, CEO, AccorHotels Luxury Brands, comments: “Fairmont Quasar Istanbul will be a landmark hotel for Fairmont – bringing the company’s history of hospitality to the heart of one of the world’s most compelling cities. Istanbul is a city that has fascinated travellers for millennia; a meeting point between East and West, Asia and Europe, old and new. We plan to become an intrinsic part of Istanbul’s dynamic future, with timeless style, unrivalled service and an incredibly personal experience for every guest, whether travelling for business or leisure.”
Fairmont Quasar marks the fifth property by parent company AccorHotels within Istanbul, joining sister properties Raffles Istanbul, Swissôtel The Bosphorus, Pullman Istanbul Airport and Convention Centre and The Elysium Istanbul MGallery by Sofitel. AccorHotels presently has 32 hotel and resort properties across Turkey, with an additional three slated for opening in Istanbul in 2017, including Galata Hotel Istanbul MGallery by Sofitel.
