Savoir launches Savoir No1

Savoir Beds has has joined forces with British fashion brand and yarn specialist Tengri  to develop the bespoke Savoir No1 Khangai. Made with Tengri’s premium yak fibres, hand-combed from cattle in the mountainous Khangai region in Mongolia, the Savoir No1 Khangai will offer a luxurious and sustainable sleep experience.

Eight kilograms of noble yak fibres, hand-combed from 80 indigenous semi-wild yaks, will fill the topper and mattress system. Khangai yak have hair with unique textures and colourings found only in animals native to this region, where they graze on mineral-rich grasslands, resulting in a fibre as soft as cashmere, warmer than merino wool and naturally odour and water resistant.

The new bed is inspired by designs and construction methods dating back to the Edwardian era and handcrafted in Savoir Beds’ London workshop. Offers a deep, restorative sleep, The boxspring features extra-long springs linked by the of star-lashing method whilst the frame is made of hardwood beech, crafted with handmade dovetail joints and featuring Makassar ebony trim, suede upholstery and a flexible, hand-tied cane edge. The mattress also features hand-tied pocket springs, masses of loose, curled horse-tail hair and layers of Tengri Noble Fibres.

The Savoir No1 Khangai mattress will also be topped with a panel of stretch cotton fabric, filled with deep high-turn pocket springs and double layers of yak fibres, while the topper incorporates deep outer layers of fibres, encasing two layers of premium horse tail curled around a lambswool core. The top and bottom panels of the case are also made from the premium cotton stretch fabric used on the No1 mattress.

Nancy Johnston, Founder of Tengri, comments: “The ‘Savoir No1 Khangai will demonstrate a new wave of sustainable luxury, offering precious and sustainably sourced materials, celebrating the values of true luxury in heritage craftsmanship and providing classic longevity, a true investment piece. Sustainability and luxury shouldn’t be mutually exclusive and our exciting new collaboration proves this, achieving the epitome of aspirational luxury.”

With its extensive environmental credentials, Tengri champions sustainable manufacturing in the creation of its products, and The Savoir No1 is hand-combed from a breed of yak which has less impact on biodiversity than non-indigenous and domesticated animal species.

Alistair Hughes, Managing Director, Savoir Beds explains: “We constantly strive to offer our customers the most exclusive and luxurious beds – this often means looking closely at the provenance of the carefully-selected materials we choose to use. With this in mind, we are hugely excited about our collaboration with Tengri, who create their yarns using natural materials carefully sourced each year from some of the most rural and remote corners of the world.”

Money from each purchase will be donated to the Wildlife Conservation Society to undertake conservation outreach and research in Mongolia.
